This outing surely rivals the Iron Dog Brigade in the annals of Snowmobiling Lore!!! This same group of pioneers return to hit the trails together for the 36th years running, faithfully fulfilling the quest for wonderful fellowship and great trail riding!! And again, nobody got hurt, lost or angry!! We've come to depend on Dave Mohr to lead us through all of the nooks and crannies of the Chequamegon National Forest. Even though the rest of us have sledded here for over 30 years, he's logged in more miles than the 10 of us combined.
Again we enjoyed Big-John Pearson presenting each of the riders with Libby's time-honored secret recipe for special Hot Buttered Rums. Even though he shared the treasured recipe with us last year, none of us have been able to brew anything near his flavorful quaff. Much the wiser this year, John was able to lighten the content of Bill Schroeder's mugs so that the Big Guy was able to maintain his peaceful demeanor this year, avoiding last year's rowdy behavior.
We continued our long streak of safe outings without as much as a scratch to sled or rider, safe a few bumpy approaches to the trails created by the heavy rains that mixed with the wonderful snowfalls causing an icy bank along each of the trails. The groomers were in excellent form this year, serving up wonderfully smooth trails once you got onto them.
Cheryl and Wade and their crew did a bang-up job again at the Village Inn (A Gracious Country Inn—except for the BJ week) showing that they know our routine even better than we do. Rhonda again baked us some absolutely delicious pies and desserts!! We were able to convince them to allow us to return for another year on February 1-5, 2011.
The sledders that partook in the 2010 expedition (and their # of trips) were: John Pearson (36), Roy Bewick (35), Dave Hagen (33), Paul Bewick (30), Bill Schroeder (28), Tom Elmquist (28), Jim Alford (20), Tom Orne (19), Lee Branwall (11), Barry Melchior (7) and Dave Mohr (7)!
Dave M. is our life-saving trail-guide and was once again able to keep us out of harm's way this year and we were ever greatful for his steadying hand. We were a little embarrassed this year, however, when Dave H. was ticketed by the Bayfield Sheriff for creeping through a stop sign in Corny on the way to John's house.
If you have a video playing software (Windows Media Player, etc)you could join us on a run through the woods here:
The fellowship was wonderful,
And the trails were better!
The snow was excellent,
And the trails were well groomed
We rode hard this year,
And rested even harder!
